Mesa LONESTAR (not special) opinions:::

Seems like a powerful, flexible amp. Anyone own one that would care to comment on them?

I've only owned one mesa 20 years ago. I'm more of a "vox" man, but this sounds interesting...

Do a search and you'll find what I've said the past couple of months...

I recently installed EL34s and like it better than with 6L6s.

i am not a mesa fan but i played a lonestar (6l6?) at willcutts a while ago. it was super versatile and could certainly do a lot. nice clean, differing levels and nice crunch/lead sound too. i normally don't like 6l6 amps either but it would certainly make a good stage amp. fairly reasonable for MB stuff to, imho. lots of toggle options to play with and get yer sound.

Very nice cleans. Muddy overdrive and complex to get a sound out of. Not a big fan.

The EL34 substitution cleared up most of the muddiness but I think the big problem is the 12" speaker. It favors the dark end and isn't very middy. In contrast, I connected the amp to the 2x12s in my THD Type O and it had a lot more presence.

you played one? what did you think? i judge amps as to whether they can replace what i have since i have no use for more than say 2. it would either have to be more flexible than my rivera bm60 head (which is a pretty tall order to fill) for use on cover gigs or have to sound as out of this world great as the valvetech teefus special. the lonestar could probably have replaced my rivera head. it did not have the extra footswitching options but had a good clean and a good lead sound. the most versatile boogie i have ever played, imho. i don't remember if it was a 2x12 or a 1x12 but i was impressed which surprised me.
