Hamer Duotone USA Std. vs. USA Custom

I have a USA Hamer Duotone Custom. This is the archtop version, with f-hole,

binding and fancy inlay. It is my favorite and main guitar for playing live. I run

the acoustic output right into the board, and the electric into my Fender Cyber-Deluxe amp. The acoustic output sounds better than any other hybrid guitar I have tried (Parker, Godin, Anderson, PRS, etc...).

I have a chance to get another USA Hamer Duotone, the original version with

no fancy appointments, flat top with 3 soundholes. I've noticed the bridge design

is different in that it looks just like the saddle for an Ovation acoustic/electric guitar. Does anyone know the difference between the Custom version I have and

the original standard version with Ovation type bridge? Are the electronics and pickup system the same? Is there a difference in acoustic sound, output?

I am 47 years old have become a Hamer Lover. I have been trading off all my other electrics to build up my Hamer collection. I am the proud owner of the USA Duotone Custom, Artist Custom, and Studio P-90.

Anyone with information on Duotones, or other Duotone owners, please feel free to contact me so we can discuss and compare.

Thanks you,

John Quinn

I've had em both, and still have a newer. f-hole Duo. THE TWO ACOUSTIC SYSTEMS ARE DIFFERENT, with the newer one being superior, IMO. I do love the electric tone of the old 3-holer though. Yummmmmmmm~

Gregc,

thanks for your input. Are the electronics different in both, or just the bridge. The 3-hole has the Ovation style bridge/pickup which is very

different from the newer custom. Either way I will be getting a 3-hole version this week and will be proudly owning 4 USA Hamer guitars.

If you or anyone would ever like to discuss Duotones, please send your phone number. It would be great to discuss the Duotone differences.

Thanks,

John Quinn (Pennsylvania)

Hey John,

I have no experience with Duotones (other than the experience of wishing I had one), but I'm a big fan of the Cyber-Deluxe. I've gotten so many great sounds out of it that I've resorted to using a computer editor/librarian so I can store more than 32! It also lets you fine tune the compressor, which you cannot do from the front panel.

Thanks for posting! If you keep talking up that Duotone Custom I might have to break down and order one.

Jonathan,

honestly, order one. I've been playing for over 30 years and have owned (wish I kept some) every guitar you could imagine, but the USA Hamer Duotone Custom is the finest instrument ever in the world (for me). Playing in a 3-pc. band, I am of course the only guitarist. I run the acoustic output right to the board and the electric of course to my amp.

It just make the band sound full, and whatever patch/sound/distortion

I have running on the electric output thru my Cyber-Deluxe, I still have

the acoustic end playing thru the pa. Hey, if you get one and don't like it,

I'll have to buy it from you.
