I think there are a few Gretsch lovers here, so here goes.

I'm posting this for a very good friend of mine. I vouch and stand behind both the seller and the guitar. You can contact him directly with any questions at psb1@speedsite.com or contact me through PM.

Up for your consideration is a vintage 1960 Gretsch DuoJet model 6128 with all original parts, including the original Gretsch gray "fleck" hardshell case. Made in USA, serial # 386XX. This is NOT a reissue.

Semi-solid, highly chambered Mahogany body. Maple top. Light weight, great resonance, with significantly less poundage than the newer reissues. Mahogany neck with Rosewood fretboard. Grover open back tuners. Two Gretsch Filtertron pickups which sound incredible. Gretsch roller bridge with G stamped tailpiece. Jet black top with natural sides and back. The neoclassical "thumbprint" inlays are unique to the post-1958 models only, and the arrow G knobs are also very cool and unique.

This beauty is in very good condition for it's age. It does have the expected nicks, scratches, checking, and wear that befits a well-loved 49 year old guitar. Still looks great. The frets have plenty of life left, the neck is straight, and the guitar plays fine all the way up the neck. All of the electronics work as they should. The two original Filtertrons are absolute screamers.

Reissues generally run close to $2,000. For my money, a 49-year old American classic like this beats a MIJ guitar hands down. Don't get me wrong, the newer Japanese reissues are fine guitars, but after playing quite a few Jets from both eras I ultimately decided to spend the extra cash for the real thing. For example, compare the crisp 90 degree edges on the back and sides of this guitar to the slightly rounded contours of the newer models. As my local guitar tech noted, "Look at the back of this guitar - those edges are sharp as a razor!"

2009 Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists this guitar at $5,500 - $8,500, and the Gbase.com dealer retail price averages about $6,500. Includes 1997 bill of sale from 48th Street Custom Guitars in New York (see photo link below).

I have shown detail of the guitar in the photos below as best I can, but if you need additional close ups or have any questions please let me know.

$4,200 Shipped.
