steviej Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I have a custom guitar that the headstock ended up being a hair too thin on. So, I need a machine head that is going to hold the strings as close to the headstock behind the nut as possible. I believe a set of G&L 6 in line tuning machines from a Legacy USA or similar guitar may do the trick. The shaft on these machine heads is shaped like a beer glass, or inverted cone. So, the string squeezes itself downward as you tune it to pitch. If anybody has a set of these laying around they are not going to use, please let me know.thanks,Stevie J.

But how about getting locking tuners instead? No winding issues; just thread, lock, snip, and tune. Had a G&L Legacy Special with Sperzel locking tuners and I miss those tuners most out of the 7 G&Ls I've owned.Locking tuners are available from Schaller, Grover, Gotoh, and Planet Waves (which self-trim as well) from www.Stewmac.com.
steviej Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 Yeah, I actually have a semi-modified set of Sperzels on the guitar now. The issue is getting the string closer to the surface of the headstock. Since the headstock itself is a bit thinner than planned, the tuning machines stick out farther making the string almost level with the nut. I actually have to add string windings to the push the strings down closer to the headstock now, defeating the whole purpose of the locking function. Also, the guitar has a fixed bridge. So, it would be pretty stable without locking tuners. However, I do appreciate your input very much.
steviej Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 Anybody maybe know anybody that may possibly have a set of these tuning machines? Help.
elduave Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I can check if G&L will sell us parts. Let me know...
