Any sonic difference at how I arrive at a target?

I am contemplating getting a 212 cabinet, but it needs to be 8 ohms. I know I can arrive at 8 ohms by using 16 or 4 ohm speakers as it's in the wiring schematic. All other things being equal would there be a sonic difference in using 4 or 16 ohm speakers as long as the cabinet is 8 ohms in either example?

Sonically it does not matter but you want to get 2 16ohm speakers. The reason is that if one fails, you'll be left with a 16ohm load on your head which will not damage it. :P

That is a very good point. Thank you.

Only if it's a solid state head. Tube amps should always have the correct load, but it's generally better to go into a lower than rated load instead of a higher one.

But he should still get 16 ohm speakers and wire them in parallel because most desirable guitar speakers come in 8 and 16 ohm versions. Haven't seen too many 4 ohm guitar speakers.
