JohnnyB Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Now that even Leo-era G&Ls are starting to gain respect in the used/vintage market (I bought a 1987 G&L bass in 1998 for $290; saw the same model listed recently at a G&L dealer for $1200) and Leo-era Music Man basses have always commanded fairly high prices, I was surprised to see this Leo-era Music Man Sabre II on eBay for a very reasonable price for what it is. Being a G&L enthusiast, I immediately noticed the MM's bridge, a die cast model very similar to G&L's Saddle Lock bridge. After Leo left, I think the bridges were re-designed in sheet metal. Anyway, compared to what 1977-1980 MM StingRays fetch, this thing is downright reasonable. I notice the same vendor has this Leo-era G&L, which is also reasonable but still fetching a bit more money in somewhat more worn condition. No affiliation; just an observation.
Ethan Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Check out the Sabre basses from back then-more design ideas, especially with the electronics, that ended up in the G&L stuff...
