Buying parts online from major guitar manufacturer

I just had an experience that left me wondering WTF?

I ordered a guitar jack from Carvin's website. It is a Switchcraft barrel style jack, Carvin part # FJ1G. It was individually packaged in a retail style packaging with Carvin logo and hole in the cardboard for hanging on a rack, so you would expect it to be new just like you are purchasing any part from any guitar store.

Well, that was not the case. The ground terminal was cut off manually leaving a 1/8" stub remaining. It was obvious because the cut was at an angle and the end was pinched. So I call Carvin and ask "Why is this new jack modified? This jack is defective. There is only a 1/8" stub for the ground." They say "Oh, sorry, we will send another immediately".

Another arrives, same thing. I call again and ask to talk to a technical person. Their response was, "That is how we use them, so they are not defective. We cut the ground terminal back because they are too long. We have ones now that are not cut. Return the one you have and we will send you one that is not cut."

So I email Carvin customer service and asked several questions, such as "Do you consider selling cut up and modified products as new a proper business practice?"

Their official response: "Please return the item for an exchange."

That's it. No explanation for anything. No answers to my questions. WTF? ;)

Edited to add: Place a dog turd in the package when you return it.

I would bet they had sent out many of these to people with Carvin guitars only to get a customer call in with "this jack doesn't fit ... it's too long..... "
