Short out? Or do you mean lose connection? If you don't want to replace it, there are 2 things you can do. If it is really loose, remove the football plate which will give you access to the jack. Very carefully bend in the leg that rides the plug and drops into the cable plug tip just a little. It is easiest to use a pair of needle nose pliers. Then, get a Q-Tip wet with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol (I use 91%) and insert it into the jack, rotate it and move it in and out. Be sure to clean the complete inside of the barrel part of the jack, and rub along the leg that drops into/touches the cable plug tip. Insert a cable and you will see where the connection is made. If the Q-Tip is black or a little dirty, repeat with a new Q-Tip until it is clean, then use a dry Q-Tip and repeat to dry it. You will notice a tigher fit and a better electrical connection. I also use a clean cloth/paper towel and alcohol and clean my cable plugs.
