Stike Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Now I'm no Hamer history expert but I think I can safely guess that an 80's shredder didn't leave the factory in vintage chic TV Yellow. If it did or if you want that look TV yeller is pretty much a trans. yellow/amber( sometimes with a slight pukey tint) over a trans white over mahogahny, were the Chaps. mahog? Anywho there's an online company www.reranch.com that sells vintage correct colors in spray cans. He uses high quality lacquer. Some folks argue the accuracy of some his colors but in this case it probably doesn't matter. Now I'm guessing the OEM color was an opaque banana yellow and the ambering of the clear coats over time might have made it look kind of TV Yellow. I don't know what brand of paint Hamer used back in the 80's but there are loads of colors in spray cans that can be topcoated with clear lac. Most of the Duplicolor touchup paints you find at Autozone or Megalowmart work fine and so does the Krylon Fusion. If you have a spray rig then the Dupont's Chroma base/clear system is great as is PPG's DBU line.
Steve Haynie Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Can you post a picture? Why do you need to refinish your guitar? Guitar refinishing is harder than most people think it is.
