Grain filler, primer, finish bases...compatible?

I am thinking oil based grain filler.

Will that work with a spray lacquer primer?

Will a spray lacquer primer work with a poly finish?

Are there any of these products that are hostile to each other?

Thanks

Will a spray lacquer primer work with a poly finish? What type of "poly" and are you using it as a primer or a sealer or maybe both? Details of your plan?

Are there any of these products that are hostile to each other? I've heard tale of EBMM using lacquer colors under polyester and I know Hamer for a bit was using lacquer for colors after they switched to a non lacquer clear but they have not for awhile. It's best to stay within a system.

Lacquer wins on tone grounds. As tempting as Roth speedball monster flake is... and I am a cheezball... I think I better stick with something simpler like Ice Pearl.

The part that confuses me is the distinction between sanding sealer and primer. I read all the stuff at ReRanch and it does not seem to explain any differences between sealer and primer. It seems to me ReRanch focuses on people doing translucent and clear finishes and terrorizes the reader about block-less and cross grain sanding.

Do you painters even want a primer? Am I wasting effort? Worse yet, am I about to waste work AND create extra work for someone else?

thanks

Sanding sealer is designed to seal the wood and be level sanded so the color coats have a flat substrate to. Primer is to get your substrate an even color so the color goes on evenly with less material, It also fills in small sanding scratches that can show up under the color coats, especially metallic and pearl colors.
