Got this note from Steve King at WGN-AM in Chi-town. Could be a fun listen either on the ray-dee-oh or the ol' bitbox.

If you've got that old guitar under the bed and you're curious about it's value, or just like talking about vintage guitars & amps I hope you'll join us this Thursday night/Friday morning (Sept. 29/30) for our semi-annual Vintage Guitar Night. Our show starts right after the 11pm news (Central Time) and can be heard on WGN-AM, Chicago (720-AM).

If you can't pick up our over the air signal, you can listen in on line at http://www.wgnradio.com and I hope you'll join in the conversation by calling 312-591-7200. Some of our in studio guests will be:

Randy Klimpert, Guitar/Ukulele expert & writer for Vintage Guitar Magazine

http:www.vintageguitar.com

Terry Straker, vintage guitar expert and owner of The Guitar Works, in Evanston IL

http:www.guitarworksltd.com

Bill Takatsuki, vintage amplifier and guitar expert from Guitar Works, in Evanston

And, we hope, you.

Selfishly, this is one of my favorite shows of the year. We started doing this several years ago and I thought it would be a one time thing. When the phone lines quickly jammed up I was a very surprised but, very happy camper. Each time we do it I think it will be the last and the jammed phone lines keep proving me wrong. Not a bad thing.

A quick story. Some of you may have read in Vintage Guitar a couple of years ago about a woman who had her son's old Strat still under his bed. Unfortunately he'd been killed in Viet Nam and she'd left his room just the way it was. Well, she fell on hard times and called into our show wondering if the Strat was worth anything. To make a long story short, we got her phone number and our friend Terry Straker from Guitar Works called her back. Terry is the most honest guy in the business and I knew he wouldn't steer her wrong. Anyhow, he helped her determine the value and put the word out. A bidding war started and she wound up selling it for $40,000 ... enough to pay off the mortgage on her house. She later called us back to say thanks and told us that she thought her son was looking out for her.

True story. Makes me think that sometimes having a love for guitars and working in radio ain't all bad ...
