I've never owned a pair, but we regularly go see some friends who have an acoustic guitar/hand percussion duo. They run some decent mics (AKG, AT, Shure) through a large-frame Allen and Heath board with QSC power. The dispersion is good and well-controlled, The highs and mids are pretty natural-sounding although their sound person is pretty quick to twist EQ knobs, so I'm not sure just how much effect they are having. The net result is good sounding in small to medium rooms and I can take a couple of hours without ear fatigue. What I can't speak to is the low end, since in that group there isn't any, really. The percussionist occasionally uses a kick from an electronic kit and it's there and audible with no ill effects, but that's not much to judge by.

Thanks Tom.. I'm looking for a small, lightweight set of speakers... perhaps 10 inchers. Will be used for the smaller gigs that my daughter's dance troupe does. Whatever I get will be run without a sub, so I need decent sound quality. For this application, we're talking rooms of about 50 people, where primo sound is not a tremendous concern. Just something that will sound better than a boom box. Also looking at the EV zx1-90. That's an 8" speaker, with a price tag around $300 each... probably more than I want to spend.

Any other suggestions?
