hamersandstrats
I just noticed that the guy who installed the rios in my Special FM put the neck pup in backwards-the screws are towards the bridge. Does this change the tone significantly? As it is, the neck sounds plenty thick. Should I flip it around or leave it as is?
Guest Buck Dharma
Maybe it was muddy so he flipped it. I have done that before it makes it a little brighter and less boomy. Then again maybe he just f'd up.
Guest Mike Lee
Try it both ways and leave it how you like it. Peter Green's Les Paul (now Gary Moore's) is like that, but 99% of the guitars out there have the screws on the neck coil, just like Gibson has always done. The tech is an idiot for doing it "wrong".Some stores have good techs, and a few have great techs. But the majority IMO are hacks who have neither the training or experience to do the job right. Brewmaster
If it sounds good, why screw with it?
hamersandstrats
It would look cool either way, and it sounds good. I don't need the coils any closer to the fretboard, these pickups are thick sounding!
