80s Scepter Specs

Levin

Question

Posted

I recently came over an old Hamer Scepter, it's my first Hamer and I'm really impressed...so it will probably be some more. I really love the guitar and now I wanna know more...

Which specs were available for the scepter?

I've seen different paint jobs (of course), but also differences in no of frets, bridge-types, hardcases etc.

I'm mainly interested in which pickups were stock?

Is there any good source for this on the web? Or if someone has a catalog or such would be just as fantastic.

Mine peculiar, which I'm most curious about, is a -86.

Any info at all is welcome.

Thank you guys.

Nasty, old linkses!

New ones here:

First entered catalogue in 1985, survived in the pricelist until 1990

22 frets until end 85, thereafter 24. Usually a maple neck on a mahogany body, ebony board and boomerangs.

Mostly they are black and red, white and black is the next most common with a few in metallic one colour finishes. There is at least one sustain block fitted Scepter but usually a Floyd is fitted. Mostly they came with Hamer Slammers, but OBLs and EMGs were also fitted. Brad Gillis's had P J Marx pickups.

Also a Vee equivalent that is less common.

Just one more thing, what kind of LACQUER/COATING was used on these? Can I use eg. carpolish to get it shine?

Original finish will be nitro-cellulose but proceed with caution as Hamer didn't use really thick layers at the time so harsh polish can cut through. I have used T-cut which works well but gently does it.
