diablo175 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Anyone in the Philly/western suburbs PA area who might know of a decent vocalist ( i.e. doesn't scream and can sing on key/pitch) who can handle a variety of classic hard rock and metal? Please have them contact me (Jim) directly at- hamburger65@ hotmail.com We've exhausted all the usual methods for finding a singer- bandmix, craigs list, etc. and now we're getting desperate. Moocho grassyass
Texas Fury Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 ...now Philly now that's a real rock and roll town.
diablo175 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Good luck, Jim... Thanks. Gonna need it.
Tah-lee Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I just joined a cover band, and we tried out nine singers before we settled on ours. He's perfect for the Buckcherry and Stone Temple Pilot songs, but a little weak on the Godsmack songs. We decided to work with him, since the other eight guys were worse.
diablo175 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Awesome, Tah-lee! Glad to hear you finally got your metal/hard rock cover band together. Right now, I'd settle for even having some singers to audition, let alone finding one that's a keeper. My guess is the broad range of material we cover can be a bit daunting...
diablo175 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Broad as in from late 60's Who, Hendrix & Monkees, to 70's Zep, Sweet, Deep Purple, Wild Cherry, Nazareth, Derringer, AC/DC & Kiss, to 80's Sabbath, Fastway, Ozzy, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Autograph, Guns N Roses, Skid Row, Scorps, Judas Priest & Accept, to 90's Collective Soul, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Metallica, & Alien Ant Farm, to 2000's Puddle of Mudd and <gasp> Nickleback. Might be a tad intimidating to a singer who isn't old enough to appreciate the Who, or is too old to have heard Nickleback, (though that's not necessarily a bad thing...)
Bobby Marshall Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I think expecting any one person to be the only lead singer in a cover band with your parameters is a tall order. We did have a guy that could do most of that for a few years though. What you want is the guitarists and bassist to all share lead vocal duties. That makes for cover band awesomeness, wide range and good harmonies. But then again I can't carry a tune in a bucket with my voice.

Yeah, our bass player did backing harmonies (and I tried) and handled a couple of tunes, but the remaining 97% was the singer.
