I just picked up a Slammer Series telecaster which I assume is model T5M. This particular guitar is not in the greatest shape and will need work/upgrades. While I'm waiting for the guitar to ship, I'm wondering if those of you in the know could provide some insight on what parts will work for me. I've attached a few pics which hopefully will help.
- I will be replacing the bridge and saddles for sure and possibly the control plate. Will standard U.S. Fender tele parts fit the T5M? Are the screw hole sizes the same? What about the pickguard screws?
- I would like to swap the tuners out with locking tuners. Are there any brand/model of locking tuners which would be drop-ins for the T5M, or will I have to drill? There is a listing on eBay right now for a single T5M tuner which would indicate that this guitar model shipped with two-pin mount tuners. - Any suggestions on replacing the pups?
[bonus Question] Since I have been a lurker here only, maybe someone can answer a question about which I've often wondered. Did the use of checkerboard graphics begin with Hamer or with Cheap Trick? Both embraced the concept, but I've never been able to figure out which came first.
