Hamer Bass Preamp Questions (EMG, Bogue, etc...)

Question

I have a couple questions for the bass folks and/or Hamer historians here...

First, does anyone know the specific model of EMG preamp used in the later model Hamer Bs with the EMG-HB pickup setups? I was looking on their site but didn't see anything that resembled it at a glance.

Second, does anyone here have any technical info on those old Rex Bogue preamps that were used in the early Bs? (Balz Deluxe/Galore, etc.). I'd love to see a schematic of what is inside that potted module...

And just on the off chance that someone has one of the Bogue pres tucked away and languishing in the parts drawer, I might be interested in it. I'd even like to get my hands on a DOA one- to unpot it and trace out the (likely very simple, but effective) circuit. I've unpotted something like that before, and could document the circuit share back the results... (assuming it doesn't infringe on someone's intellectual property at this point).

Thanks in advance!

There is no preamp in any of mine, just the pups and the pots. I never opened the back plate on the ultimate so not sure what's in it.

This is pretty much what's there on mine.

Thanks, Marcus.

I'll post a photo later of the pre that is in that B4M ultimate - if anyone can identify it. There's a small SMT board mounted to the "tone" pot. It sounds fantastic (had it out yesterday for the first time), and I just wanted to understand more about the circuit if possible.

As for the early Bogue pres... I REALLY like those in the octave basses, and was just curious about the circuit. I'm one of those guys that tends to favor passive basses, but hey when a pre works I'm all for it. Just like the Moser preamps in my old BCRs - I love how they sound in those basses.

If I could get my hands on a spare Bogue unit, I could possibly unpot it and go as far as to do a board layout and have some run off. It's not that expensive, and might be fun to experiment with as an alternative in the newer basses. I know the EMG PA1 is supposed to get close... but I'm still curious about what was used in those early pres...

I think I figured out what the additional EMG board is in this bass. Looks like an EXB "bass expander" eq control.

Here's an older stock photo I found of one:

The new ones are smaller with a header connector on the back... so I didn't recognize it from the current offerings on their site.
