What kind of finish on slammer series guitars and how to safely strip it?

I have been wanting to try my own repairs and mods on a guitar for years now. Recently got a slammer series eclipse and found out it had a loose bridge post and cracked finish on the neck from someone just smacking the old nut off. So it seems like a good starter to do some work on.

Main problem is I live in an apartment with no garage. So stripping and refishing would be problematic. I read citri strip would be safe indoors just not sure if it would be strong enough.

Wanted to try my hand at refretting it too. Just dont want to ruin a decent guitar by realizing half way through I wont be able to finish it.

Also any recommendation for a non nitro spray cans?

It's polyester, Citri Strip won't do a damn thing to it. Aircraft Stripper can work on polyester but it could take 2 or more applications.

A heat gun will get you there faster. If you're not careful though you can scorch the wood. Don't set the gun too hot or stay in one spot too long.

Dont spray anything in your apartment. You porch isn't a good spot either unless you want your neighbors to complain non stop.

Thanks for the tips. What would I want to put under the body to protect the working surface?  Would a sheet of thin plywood be enough?

Also anyone know if having the guitar down to bare wood would make it cheaper to get it refinished? Seems like cleaning of the old finish would be the most time consuming part. Wouldn't be anything fancy like a simple burst as I am not sure a trans finish would do much since mahogany is already such a dark wood.
