VECTOR Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Hi there! I saw some one piece maple tops on Blitz and Vector guitars, but Standards only with two piece tops. Is there any reason for this? Or are there one piece Standards too? Thanks an have a nice day.
cmatthes Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 Most of the (rare) flametop Blitz and Vector guitars were single-piece veneer tops. There are simply not that many of those - fewer Blitz examples, but the first generation Vectors and KK Vectors were usually one piece. Standards, even early on, were typically two-piece, even when they used the veneer tops, from 1974-1999. After 1999, Hamer switched to a thicker, 1/4" bookmatched solid wood top that was then milled down. Part of the reason is that the Standard was the flagship, top-of-the-line instrument and received additional attention. The original run of Standards - for a decade - were built off-premises. Blitz and Vectors were "Production" guitars, built in the Hamer shop, so more efficient building methods were employed. Not sure if that answers your question or not, but feel free to ask!
