Montelovesco Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 This is a long shot, I know, and a bit strange, too. A few years back I bought a pretty nice OD, the Stellar, made by DMB. The company seems to be out of business since 2016, but obviously they made some pretty cool stuff (https://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/dmb#pictures) . So if you run into one or have one in the attic, just let me know. Thank Daniel
JGale Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 MyFrenDan©️ built one. I have a text into him asking whereabouts. Simple circuit: single op-amp gain loop driving an FET output. As the volume is raised the FET compresses the signal. Bjfe Honey Bee is a similar circuit except for two hard clipping diodes in the circuit permanently and a more sophisticated tone control that affects the bias on the output transistor in a manner not unlike a COT. There are various kits about, you could leave out the hard clippers or put them on a switch. The kit above has two additional things going for it. Provision to allow a mutiswitch selection of different diodes in the gain loop and an adjustable FET boost at the end of the circuit. Adding a switch to change or cutout the hard clipping diodes would be sweet.
JGale Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Here is the Killer Bee kit in Europe. https://www.musikding.de/Killer-Bee-kit
Montelovesco Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 Thanks a lot, this may be the day I dare to build a pedal by myself… 😌
JGale Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Dan has the scratch built PedalPCB Celestial Drive available if you're interested. I just got a Killer Bee kit delivered. I'ma try that trick with the switchable hard clip diodes and get back to you. I have the Aion Electronics Procyon Dan built me. It is a fun pedal with neck single coils. Rich, juicy, glassy with everything at noon. The tone control does seem to alter the nature of the gain much like the COT 50 does: darker not muddy, in possession of resplendent but not fierce highs. Noon is the neutral setting. Doesn't have a boost though. Have COT for that.
JGale Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Also, Bearfoot Pedals, the US distributor/manufacturer of Bjfe designs has several versions of the Killer Bee on Reverb. Haarguitars has these in Europe.
