Hand wired Ceritone 36 Watt head

Up for sale is a handwired Ceriatone 36 watt 4xEL84 amp head that is affectionately known as the "Richamp". Although it was assembled by Ceriatone, the layout was actually designed by Richie Hall...a very talented amp builder/tech who hangs out quite a bit over at the 18watt.com forums. Upon getting this amp from Ceriatone, I actually had Richie custom tweak it and sprinkle in a little extra mojo.

The amp features a 4xEL84 power section, a 3x12AX7 preamp section and a GZ34 rectifier (all JJ's). The transformers are custom wound for Ceriatone, and they are of excellent quality. In fact, the output tranny is the same one normally used in Ceriatone's take on a plexi 50. The wiring is boutique quality. The amp essentially has two channels (both with high and low inputs) and both channels can be jumped for even more tonal options. There is an excellent master volume and a really cool "negative feedback" switch that can add girth or tighten things up depending on your taste.

Tone wise, this amp has the beautiful glassy chime of the EL84's, but with the roar of a classic Marshall. Most guys say that the 18 watt Marshalls aren't loud enough and that the plexi 50 is overkill. Volume wise, this one is perfect at 36 watts. You can push it and great tones at just about any volume you desire. There are some really nice cleans...and this amp can flat out bring the rock.

The amp itself is in excellent shape. The headbox (genuine Marshall) has a few dings and a rip in the tolex, but overall, it's in really good condition. This is a stellar amp for not a lot of dough. Plenty more pics available. If you register at the 18 watt forums, you can hear some truly great clips of the same model amp. Mind you, the clips are NOT clips of my personal amp, but clips made by Richie of the same 36 watt design. I'll do it for $750 plus shipping. I will consider trades, but I'm mostly interested in cash.

Alas why isn't this around when I need a killer tube head...

18watt.com is down, but here are some clips of essentially the same circuit with 2 x el84 and they sound sweet. I would estimate the 36 watt to have slightly more clean head room.

Wow. Those are some great clips. Yeah...the 36 watter can do all of that really nice, expressive stuff on up into AC/DC, Zep, Nugent territory. In many ways, I think that it's much more versatile than a plexi.
