Mindseyes Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 My buddy lent me his T5 and it needs new strings really bad, what are you guys using?
Teh Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I use Elixir electric Heavy (.012-.52). Another option is acoustic lights...
tobereeno Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I prefer electric strings on acoustics as well. I use 11-54 Ernie Balls.I LOVE the T5 - tons of mojo. I'd go 11-52 if I had one, maybe 10-52.
guitararmy Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I use mine as an acoustic/electric strung with either Elixer Nanoweb or D'Addario EXP 11-52's.If I used it as an electric, I might try the D'Addario XL115 11-49's I have laying around....
Mindseyes Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Thanks for the input guys!Neat guitar, very nice clean tones but I don't really dig it for a true acoustic tones.Great build quality and plays just as good as any of my other guitars.
Teh Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I have two -- 6 and 12 string models, both with Maple tops. Absolutely brilliant design and the most high fidelity preamp I've heard in a guitar. I bought the six string in '06 and am still finding new voices with it. I picked up the 12 string version last year at Dave's and it has replaced my full body acoustic 12 for stage work.A couple key tips for success with a T5:1. It's a balanced (Lo-z) output. Use a balanced TRS/XLR cable out of the guitar, then a Lo-z/Hi-z transformer (XLR female to 1/4" TS) at the pedal board or A/B/Y box. Gets you about 6dB more gain on the output.2. If you want acoustic tone, don't expect it from an electric amp. Run the signal to an acoustic amp or direct to board. Turn the tone controls up to give it more depth.3. Use an A/B/Y to split the signal to acoustic and electric outputs, and run them both at the same time. KILLER tone. I'll run the acoustic with a little delay and reverb to the PA, and the electric side through the pedal board to the Egnater. Blend and enjoy.4. The tone and volume controls are active and the key to the guitar's versatility. The center detent position of the controls is at unity gain -- Turning up from there adds bass/treble/volume, and going down from there subtracts. Want jazz? P'up position 2 (neck pickup only), treble at 25%, bass at 75%. Want Twang? P'up position 3 (Bridge only), treble at 75%, bass at 25%, kick up up the volume to drive it. P'up position 4 (Bridge/neck parallel) is great for clean Strat tones, and position 5 (Bridge/Neck in series) is a killer humbucker drive patch. Minor adjustments can make big differences. My best suggestion is to play around -- a lot...5. Watch your gain staging. It can get hissy... Have fun!!!!
Mindseyes Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Great tips!!!I tried it with both my AxeFxII and a LR Baggs Para DI for recording and to a PA and the acoustic tones just didnt do it for me like I wanted it to.All the other clean tones are KILLER though!!!!........My two Favorite settings are the 2nd and the middle, with a little 2290 delay and some parallel chorus the clean tone where heavenly!!!
