zorrow Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 After giving some thoughts to this, I think I'll be selling soon my Dean GTV. Some info about the GTV first: The Dean Gold Top V is a limited run made in Korea. They just built 50. Mine's #12 of 50. It comes with custom-made USA pickups which were designed just for the GTV by Pat Baker. He didn't document the pickup specs on purpose so that these pickups would be unique to the GTV (not available on any other model --production or otherwise). Interesting side note too: the pups wound for the GTV were the very first ones produced under the DMT name. Now about my sell and why: Main reason: I'm getting another Czech V and I don't really need more than two guitars to gig with --ok, I confess: my wife has also had a word to say on this decision. Now seriously, I'm still hesitating about this. The GTV's body and neck are just perfect for my tastes, and though it's too light for me (6.7 lbs), I'm sure this would be a plus in the mid term. But there is an issue with it that got me thinking too --and PLEASE READ this: The lower edge of several frets are raised, so the high E string slips in there from time to time. My luthier just told me that this is a common problem with Korean guitars, and it would be around 150 bucks to re-fix the frets and properly glue them with epoxy (plus a setup, of course). He's a true pro, so the job will be more than excellent. Now, you bet I do like this guitar, but I don't need a third player. If in addition I have to pay 150 bucks to do the fret job (which in my opinion is mandatory), this is starting to become a luxury I don't really need. That's why I'll test the waters now: I'd sell this guitar for 500 bucks + actual shipping to anyone; or, if you want me to do the job on the frets my side (done by the guy who takes care of Cryptopsy's guitars, who is a very competent repairman), I'd add 150 bucks to the aforementioned price (so, 650 + shipping) and you'll get a quite unique and solid player for a good price (and "brand new" in practice). Any potential takers around here then? PS: By the way, there's another issue: the hard case has a cut on its surface which happened when shipped. No big deal, as the rest of it is just new, but it should be mentioned. Here's a picture of the guitar in my hands --the best I have of it for now, but I'll take more soon: Edited to add: These guitars sell new for $700 without case, and $800 with case.
