Not to be contradictory (but I guess I am) but... with "relic-ing" being such a fad for a while now, there may be those who do want it, especially if it's the real thing.  Anyway, you can't hear the checking, unless maybe you're Eric Johnson.

Mine has it too.  But since I’ve had the bass since 1985 I am sorta proud of the checking.  Very awesome bass.

Its a nice bass ,looks to be all original but there pictures didn't show what showed up at my house.They offered me 50.00 off of 1325.00 but they also offered to take it back and pay for return shipping.They treated me fair in my book.
