Brian Scherzer Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I am selling my Hamer Newport Pro. As a bassist, I wanted a nice guitar to supplement my bass playing. I purchased this Newport used from a dealer on Ebay, but found the medium neck to be not my best neck size. I recently bought a new Hamer Triple Threat, which has a beefier neck and am selling the Newport. It is an exceptionally nice guitar, with great action and no problems other than those mentioned. I am attaching a link to the old Ebay auction because Atomic Music had a very precise description of the guitar. Please note that, although the images make the back and neck of the guitar look dark, it is the usual red stain found on Hamers. The images just didn't get the color right. The front of the guitar shows the correct color finish.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohostingPrice is $1600, which includes insured shipping. I will ONLY sell to the lower 48 states and would prefer to ship the guitar via air, rather than ground delivery. Please do NOT respond if you are anywhere other than the lower 48 states!
Pieman Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 I watched that auction and was thinking of bidding at the end, until the BIN was executed. It appears to be a very nice guitar. How bad are the neck dings? What do you think of the spruce top, both sonically and in appearance? So here's a bump for you. Surprised nobody commented on this. I get a raise in 10 days, and I can only hope that my raise is big and the guitar is still available.

Maple top not spruce.Newport Pros are very nice guitars. My spruce top sounds great. I love the look of maple and I'm sure it sounds killer.......maybe a little brighter and more fundemental in attack.
Brian Scherzer Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 Pieman.............There was no Buy It Now, so you may be thinking of a different auction. This Newport Pro has an upgraded flamed maple top. There are no "dings" on the neck or guitar body. I would call them "scuffs". Playability is in no way affected. Because I am a bassist, I wasn't sure how to describe the guitar in terms of playability and tone. I took it to Steve at Wildwood, who played it and said that the guitar plays and sounds great....it sure sounds better when HE plays it! It is an excellent guitar, but I quickly learned that my large hands require a very fat neck to feel comfortable when playing for long periods of time. It is the same thing I experienced when playing a PRS wide/thin neck when compared to a PRS wide/fat neck. I just didn't realize that it was the thickness of the neck that made a difference in how comfortable I am with an instrument.
Guest pirateflynn Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 The more I think about this guitar, the more I love it.
Guest galejt Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 The more I think about this guitar, the more I love it. You and me both!
atquinn Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 The best looking Newport ever? Yes. If I was in the market for one of these, I'd be all over this. Alas...-Austin
