mr. papa Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 For sale is a ProCo RAT 2 pedal, like new in the original box. This is from the late '90s, serial number RT-239941, and I don't see a scratch or mark on it. True Bypass with red LED, made in the USA.It also contains the heavy duty LM308 Metal Can IC, which Robert Keely indicates is key to great tone (he replaces whatever is in there if it's not the LM308 as part of his mod). You can read more at http://www.robertkeeley.com/product.php?id=7.The new ones with the bad ICs sell for $90 plus shipping. This like new unit with the good IC ships to you via USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation for $60 OBO. I accept USPS Money Orders and PayPal. If paying with PayPal, please add an additional $2.00 to cover fees. There's nothing wrong with the pedal and it's in perfect condition. I am just an incessant GASser, looking for something different.
DavidE Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Is the sound true to the originals? I have an original I bought in the early 80's and use it, but not having an LED is driving me nuts.
mr. papa Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Hi,I'm not really sure how they compare as I didn't have an original one. I think they try to make it the same only with added features, but components always change over time. Maybe someone else can answer that? Thanks for your question!

Scooter Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Price reduced to $60 shipped (CONUS)!I used to have a RAT (1 or 2, I don't recall). It sounded like gawd on my old overdriven tube amp to put it into full-blown METAL! This makes me wonder what a RAT like this one sounds like on a solid state amp. Any idea?
mr. papa Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 I haven't tried it on a solid state amp, but the range of distortion is so wide I bet it would sound killer for aggressive music. It sounds great through my tube amp, but I just don't play heavy music anymore, and I'm looking for a pedal designed with more subtle 'boost' characteristics. If it doesn't sell, I'll probably just use it at a low setting as a boost. Just thought I'd give someone else a shot with it.
