SEYMOUR DUNCAN PA-STK1n PARALLEL AXIS STACK

I just got a cool Cali Elite in black/white granite (marble) finish from Dave's Guitars. Some of you may remember the threads about it earlier. Anyway, Dave's is great to do biz with and my first Cali is all I thought it would be. It's a keeper!! The unique finish looks much better in person than in pics - it has more depth.

I'm not too sure about the Hot Rails neck pickup though. I'm still getting use to it but I'm not use to something that hot and dark in that postion. I usually prefer something cleaner and brighter sounding there. The SEYMOUR DUNCAN PARALLEL AXIS bridge humbucker sounds perfect to me so that's staying.

Does anyone have a SEYMOUR DUNCAN PA-STK1n PARALLEL AXIS STACK for sale/trade? They don't seem to be that common and I think many people dismiss them because of their odd looks.

Any opinions on what works good in the neck position of a Cali? I know...so subjective but basically just wanted to start a discussion about it if anyone has anything good to say. I get plenty of distortion from my amps so I don't really need some super hot pickup and I usually prefer the sound of tamer pickups. I also like a better, sweeter clean tone from the neck position. Thanks in advance for your help!

You already know what pickup I want, so I won't go into that , however, you might want to check to make sure a PASTK will fit in your neck pickup rout without you having to shave down the pickup/dremel out he route a bit. As I recall, they're a bit larger that traditional single coils (I even think I remember something on the SD site saying it might be necessary to expand the holes on a typical strat pickgaurd in order for them to fit).

Yes, they are larger than a regular vintage-type single coil but I believe they should fit in the Hamer single route just fine. Those routes give mucho room compared to the holes in a regular Strat-type plastic pickguard. Those barely are large enough for a regular vintage type single coil to fit in (which I believe is what SD was refering to).

The pickup will fit in the single-coil hole of the Cali - no problem. I have the same PA stacked-single in my Cali Elite, and it sounds awesome.

There's a new one for sale on evilbay right now.

How would you compare the sound to your other calis hot rails neck pickup? Thanks for the help!

I think you have to do a bit of trial and error in getting a good pickup match for the cali neck spot. This is due to the extended fretboard. I had one with a Dimarzio fast track that sounded really good. My Watson has the PA single and it sounds pretty good, but it's a different animal.
