proto84 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Hi,This is my first post, and I'm looking for some help. I have the above guitar (it's identical to the one on the hamer fan club site sitting next to the pink steve stevens in a picture). As I'm in the UK, and also given that I'm not a great player (just play in my house for fun), I didn't realise this guitar was a classic until the last month when I've started to get interested in it again. I've had it for about twelve years. Someone gave me this, and $200 for my gibson melody maker (I paid $500 new for it). Even by my modest standards the melody maker just didn't seem very good and I sold it six months after buying it. I'm going to sell this guitar (Hamer), as I could do with the money, and as I play basic stuff I don't need such a great guitar. The help I need is, how do I tell it's fully original? The serial number is there so I'm pretty sure its the original finish. It's the Kahler I'm wondering about really. It's the red coulour by the way. As a side note, the guy who traded it to me told me it belonged to Andy Summers from The Police. I doubt this very much, but as I come from the same town as Sting, it's something I like to dream is true!!! Anyway, it has it's hard case, and is great to play. A few scratches and stuff, but only on the back and sides. It looks great from the front. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Jimbilly Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I think mines an '84 as well, Kahlers were pretty common at that time, mine:
proto84 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 thanksMine looks exactly like that, except it's Chrome.
serial Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Jimbilly-that looks EXACTLY like my old Proto2-gunmetal grey w/black hardware. I forget where it ended up!Proto2s were standard with Kahlers. Cool guitars.
