petemfa51 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I just received "Serial's" '79 Hamer Sunburst. I had a Hamer Special back in 81 that was a nice guitar.I've been playing mostly Historic Les Paul's and a '56 Tele nowadays.I wondered how the Sunburst would compare to a really nice sounding '57 Historic loaded with Tim White's famous PAF's (yea, the 2 year wait guy) Now let me say this. I've been playing for 30 years, I know how it is when you get a new/used guitar. At first you love it, then after a few weeks you're looking for something else. I've been through that. If a new guitar doesn't cut it SOUND wise, I'm on to the next one. Looks are not important to me at this stage of the game.I have to say even my wife noticied how nice the Hamer sounded when compared to the Les Paul. The LP has more high end than the Sunburst. And, this is BIG, the Hamer REALLY gets that note blossum that we have all heard but rarely ever find. Really a great guitar. Steve was great to deal with. Did everything he said he would. The only thing I can compare this Hamer to is some really nice Vintage Gibson's I've been lucky to play. It's a keeper!
cmatthes Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 That is one of the two guitars I never thought I'd see him sell. You caught him at a rare moment of weakness, perhaps? I have had the pleasure of playing that particular guitar, and have said before that that is one of the best Sunbursts I've ever played. Congrats!
Guest pirateflynn Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 That's great news. I feel the same way about a Sunburst or two that I'm lucky enough to own.Steve is a gem, easily one of the most generous guys around.
Sitamoia50 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Couldn't agree with ya more seein' a '79 Sunburst is my MAIN axe. Your story is eerily similar to mine, the playin' for 30 yrs, the whole Les Paul thing etc. My whole sound in the band I'm in is based around It and I couldnt be more happier or for that matter sound any better. I honestly can finally say Ive found the "ONE"! It just has the elusive "IT" that has escaped me for the longest time. Kudos.......
Sitamoia50 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 petemfa51, when and if you have the chance, could you post a pic or two of It. I'd love to see it......
serial Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Pete was great to deal with as well! Glad it arrived in good shape-I would have been sick if anything happened to that one! The '79s have always been my favorites and this one was my fave '79. I am DEFINITELY going to put the last set of '79 Hamer/Dimarzios in something-they're not doing any good in the parts drawer-thats' for sure. Here are some pics to let Pete have some more playing time with 'er...
