Another "Best EL34" Question

Hamer content all testing was done with my fabulous black sparkle shred neck Centaura USA.

Ok so we been here done this before.

I plopped in a set of Electro Harmonix sheep face 12AX7EH, but retained the inverter tube as a 12AT7WA (7025) Groove Tube

Then I tried swapping in Winged C Svetlana SV6L6GC's, switching the bias, on my Carvin V3. The results were remarkably like my old 1973 Bassman 100 head on the No. 3 clean channel, like a JCM800 with 6550 on channel 2, and the same with fuzz and lack of clarity on fuzz on the Dirty No. 1 channel. This is great if I ever need these types of amps.

So I flipped the Winged C 6L6GC's out, swithed the bias back to EL34, and put the stock Groove Tubes EL-34's back in. Instant tone monster.

The question is: What are your opinions regarding current production EL-34? My GT's are not going to last forever, and I try to have at least one set of backup power tubes at all times. I have a set of SovTeks I pulled from my Vai VL212, but I was not terribly impressed with those.

THANKS!

Try the reissue Mullards, Winged "C", or JJ's. If you wanna spend just a little more the best deal out there are the NOS Siemens EL34's, kick ass tube and usually $75 a matched pr.

An AT7 is not a 7025. The 7025 is a lower gain AX7. IIRC, I could be wrong though.

You can still get some decent NOS EL34s at good prices. Boogie still has the Seimens EL34 listed on their site for $70 a pair. Considering the Mullard Reissues are going for around $50 a pair, this is a no brainer. IMHO of course.

I think you mean lower noise 12ax7 as both 12ax7s and 7025s are ecc83 type tubes.

It says. 12AX7WA. My bad. I am very aware of the Euro naming of tubes. It is silkscreened 7025 below the 12AX7WA.

Thanks for the answers
