petedz Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 http://cgi.ebay.com/Hamer-Vintage-S-Guitar...1QQcmdZViewItemOh gosh I like that. Almost a perfect match for my #1, but I can't afford it.
MCChris Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Price seems a little steep. Then again it is Floyded. Don't recall ever seeing one like it.
Nuclear Wessel Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 The seller says it used to belong to Bill Kaman. It's certainly unique. A Floyd with three single coil pickups. The seller also says The neck is thick. Big at the top and smaller toward the base of the neck.Smaller toward the base? Whatever the case, it doesn't sound like the usual flat thin Vintage S neck.Does the body on that one on E Bay look a little less scaled down than Vintage S's usually were? The one on E Bay: A typical Vintage S: The top point of the one on E Bay doesn't look quite as thin and pointy. Also, the sides don't look as rounded on the one on E Bay. It looks a little more like a typical Strat body shape.
e-isle rock Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 I have a Vintage S with a Floyd and one without. The only difference in the body that I can tell is the edge radius around the body of the Floyded VS is much more sharp. The body on my nonfloyd V is really rounded. I can't post pics anymore (not sure why) otherwise I'd post them.
petedz Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Here's mine. The body on the eBay one looks the same to me. The price is off by at least four bills, though.

fade2grey Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Here's mine. The body on the eBay one looks the same to me. The price is off by at least four bills, though. That looks like a none-reversed-headstock Centaura...
MCChris Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 That looks like a none-reversed-headstock Centaura... +1 And the top one in e-isle rock's post is a T62 with a different pickguard, no?
petedz Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 That looks like a none-reversed-headstock Centaura... Hmm... they made Centaura's with super-figured birdseye necks and transparent finish on the headstock with the stadium logo? OK. It looks identical to e-isle's to me....either way--I love playing it. e-isle, if you ever, in a moment of temporary insanity, consider selling the Floyded one, please let me know!
e-isle rock Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 And the top one in e-isle rock's post is a T62 with a different pickguard, no? Nope, not a T-62. The person I bought it from had a fender pickguard installed in it as well as some preamp that wasn't the stock preamp. Which means...gasp...the body is all routed out Fender style and a horrible job at best. The pickups were Duckbuckers when I got it. It didn't sound good at all. The electronics he had put in were in their death throws. So, I made a template of the pickguard, sent it to Chandler Music and had the one you see made. I cleaned up the routing as best I could, got a hold of the original TC300 preamp it had originally and installed it as well as some Rio Grande Muy single coils, though this pic is a little dated and shows it when I had EMG's in it. Sounds good now. Looks good too. Until you take the pickguard off. I got it off Ebay years ago. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew all the issues it came with. Also, some research would've told me Vintage S's didn't come with pickguards. I just assumed from the pics it was an option on them. Live and learn. I really love playing it though and that's all that counts in the end I guess. It was a Vintage S in Guitar Center in Tacoma, WA in the early nineties that turned me on to Hamers. I played that guitar for hours in the store. I couldn't afford a USA Hamer so I bought a Slammer Cali. That was then, now I have 6 USA Hamers and love'm all! My other Vintage S has not been violated save for the WCR pickups in it BTW. Sorry for the long post. e-isle, if you ever, in a moment of temporary insanity, consider selling the Floyded one, please let me know! Sorry, don't think I'll be selling that one. It is as close to mint as you can get except for the new pickups. I still have the original stuff.
e-isle rock Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Speaking of T-62's, how do they compare tonewise to a Vintage S? I'm assuming they are less bright/more warm being they are made of Alder and not a solid piece Maple? Thanks!
