Samuello Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 ...and I liked it! Am I crazy? I would like to hear your opinion I don't know was it the heavy strings, hollow body or what but acoustically the guitar felt great. It had nice 'snap' to it, somewhat similar to a '56 Les Paul I tried a while ago ( http://www.kitarapaja.com/pics/glp563.jpg ). The Subtone is a baritone guitar but it they had it tuned like a normal guitar!? Maybe this was the reason? I played it quite a long time like that before tuning it to B. IMO the 13-56 strings are too thin for such a low tuning. They felt more like rubber bands but I still liked the guitar. I have a crazy plan of buying the Subtone and using it with a little heavier strings or maybe tuning it up to C, C#, D or some open tuning... I don't know! Could the neck handle normal tuning (E or Eb)? What do you think? If you have any opinions about these guitars feel free to tell me it. I'd appreciate it! Thanks, -Samuel
atquinn Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 The scale length is only an inch longer than normal, so it should have no problem handling regular tuning; there are plenty of 26.5" guitars out there (many of then 7 strings) that are meant to be tuned regularly.-Austin

Thank you Austin! Yeah, the scale length isn't that long for a baritone guitar... But it helps a lot when using lower tunings, I guess Any other comments, dear fellows? -Samuel

Samuello Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 Any other comments, dear fellows? ? and up we go! --------------------- I'm really considering buying this Subtone. If You have any comments, please, I would like to hear them One thing I like about it is the hollow/chambered body. IMO it seems to bring something nice to the sound. Maybe I should make a new thread about the effects of a hollow body in general? The longer scale is another thing I like... Thanks, -Samuel
Samuello Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 I didn't even know there was such a thing. Well, now you know Yeah, these seem to be rare birds -Samuel
Steve Haynie Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Ovation makes a long neck model which is played by Preston Reed. It can handle being tuned to normal pitch just fine, but the longer scale makes it useful for lower tunings. I am guessing the Monaco Subtone would be fine at full pitch, but it would be easy to just contact Kim Keller at Hamer and ask a few questions.
