Carvin Bolt Kit

Toying with the idea of the Carvin Bolt Strat Kit.

Anyone have one? Any favorite configurations?

I don't have a Strat, and I'd like it to have a trem.

Thanks!

Don't know about the kits, but I have a hardtail swamp ash factory-finished unit. Very nice indeed - and I got it used with a tweed case from evilbay for less than the price of a kit. The single coil pickups sound great. Personally, I'd go for the regular humbucker in the bridge position, but you may want all singles. Go for it!

Thanks for the input!

That's the thing... it would be cheaper to just buy a used one, but I might like to try finishing it in nitro, just for fun. I have an old Carvin Doubleneck bolt on (1977) that I got new. It's pretty nicely made.

I had a factory built Bolt back in the late 90's and really like d the tone of it. The Bolt is long gone but I did put a Carvin Bolt pickguard / pickups (H/S/S) on my Strat. Works great for me.

I built one a while back, 98' I think. It was ok. I prefer my parts 'o caster over it anyday.

I built one of the kits a few years back...it was a fixed bridge version. All in all a good experience and a good guitar. I liked the singles, but the humbucker in the bridge was pretty mediocre, so I wouldn't recommend that option. I just never warmed up to the neck on the guitar...wide but thin profile, with a pretty flat radius as I recall. More of a shredder feel than a strat feel. Once I picked up a G&L Legacy I knew what I wanted, so I sold the Bolt (for almost what I paid for the kit).

Carvins typically have a very flat (16"?) radius on their fretboards, but I believe they have optional more Fender-like radii available now as an option. Don't order over their website as they don't list all options there. IIRC, you can get any bolt-neck guitar with any option in kit form. Choose your woods, reverse headstock, inlays, etc. If you want to do some reading or ask some questions from those who really know, go to the forums at http://www.carvinmuseum.com They're quite helpful (I'm a member over there too.)
