  1. Just some unplugged riffs. It was after the show, so no time for a real test. He thought it could be set up as a cool slide guitar and was fascinated with the case as well
  2. Gary Hoey digs #5 😁
  3. My turn.... 😊
  4. This is the amp section of a 5F6A I built for a friend of mine back in '06. It's a Weber kit.
  5. Damn. If that Powerball ticket pays off tonight, I'll give you a call. What a beauty!
  6. Like so? Yes, exactly so!
  7. I just had an artistic idea pop into my head - can a "boomer be reworked into an "S" while maintaining the lines of the lower portion? I wonder if that would be legal. I wish I had photoshop…. As far as the rest of this goes, I think it's a fantastic idea. I wish Mike all the best of success. I'll have to sit out this round, but maybe someday…….
  8. I played this one today. Great tone and feel! (null)
  9. REO. "Tough Guys". Richrath used the pinch harmonic quite nicely in a number of tunes
  10. Speaking of chord progressions, did Van Halen's "Little Dreamer" rip off "Hotel California"? Try it!
  11. Got mine in the mail today. Mitch, you're the best!
  12. I'd like to thank the members for this prestigious award. I would also like to thank my wife; without whose help I could never have persevered for the entire year. Damn it! I wish to withdraw my name from consideration for 2014, to let others bask in the glory of a hard-fought achievement...
  13. This is exactly why I'm not signing up for the 2014 Buy No Guitars challenge. I'll just wait until next December and find something awesome. Beautiful guitars you have there. If that lottery ticket pays off, I'll be in touch…
  14. Funny related story: I was looking at a guitar in one of the aforementioned Daddy's stores, when a guy walked in looking to sell his Hamer Sunburst. They offered him $150 for it (this was 1982). He decided against it and left the store. I followed him out the door and bought it on the street for $300. I still have it!
  15. Daddy's Junky Music used to calmly state that they would pay half what they thought they could sell it for. They gave more on trades, but for cash buys, that was the deal. Don't like it? Sell it yourself.
  16. I"m still in the game, but it's not as easy as I thought it would be.
  17. Can't explain it - total beater that I cobbled together from parts. Sounds great, plays great, and light as a feather.... The "Centablo"
  18. Most of the bands listed are Axe-FX users. I have a theory... May I also note, they did not rule out Carvin. LOL!!!
  19. I've owned several Carvins and liked them - the basses especially. That said, at the moment I only have a couple of Hamer basses. I have a Carvin "Bolt" stratocopy and use it heavily. I have a several Hamer guitars that I hardly ever play, but the "Centablo" Franken-Hamer that I slapped together is one of the best guitars I've ever owned. Go figure. In the end, if you want to try a Carvin guitar, do it. There's little to gain by asking ardent fans of another guitar company what they think of them. Your tastes are your tastes - to hell with everybody else. If a guitar works well to make you sound the way you want to sound, then it's a good guitar. If you like how it looks, then it's beautiful. So on, and so on....
  20. There is a way! It's the job of every one of us to show that love every chance we get. The smiles or kind gestures we make at seemingly the most insignificant moments can be the thing that makes them say "not today" and maybe tomorrow they start to get better, or things begin to turn around. It doesn't matter if it's someone close to us, or a total stranger we encounter at the grocery store. Be nice - Give the world something to believe in. You just might save a life.
  21. So, are you saying that which "set you off" doesn't set you off any more? Maybe the things which once inspired you to write aren't worth the emotional and intellectual effort to you now. Everything changes - especially our passions. If nothing you're doing right now inspires you to write, maybe try some new non-musical hobby or something. I'm stuck in this same uninspired kind of a rut myself, so I (sort of) know how you feel. For me, I'm either too busy or too tired from being too busy...
  22. I have not played so little guitar in the last 20 years as I have since I started at Fractal. The job is just crazy busy, and by the time I get home, I'm fried and don't feel like playing. I've recently brought a couple of guitars to keep in my office with the goal of taking a break now and then to work on something.
  23. I got a text yesterday from my daughter's boyfriend. He wants to buy me dinner and tonight "To talk about Amy"..... I think this could be a big moment (and I'm a sucker for tradition)
  24. Carvin makes a 2x4 headstock on their Holdsworth model. http://www.carvinguitars.com/catalog/guitars/hf2s I got to tour the factory when I was in San Diego last week, and they told me exactly what's been mentioned here - can't do certain headstocks because of EB and others.
