Boogie1 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 My creature has come to life- my Strat project is not fully complete, but enough where it will see this weekend's gig! (I still have to fix a stripped fine tuner and install a locking nut...) It now has ($280 later) the DG20 David Gilmour EMG kit, which consists of 3 EMG active SC pickups. It also includes an SPC control which acts as a mid-range boost and and EXG control which boosts the high and low frequencies while cutting mid-range. There is NO SC hum! So far, I'm liking what I'm hearing although I'm still adjusting to the thin Strat sound. My SG and Les Paul will still be me main axes, but this guitar will be THE ONE on certain songs for sure. It plays as good as it looks, expecially considering I'm using .010-.046 gauge strings. I first thought I might have to go .010-.042 but these strings seem to be working fine. I did also notice that my Boss AC-2 Acoustic Simulator responds much better to these pickups than any of my humbucker guitars.
Punkavenger Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I went to the 11-52 strings on my Daytona and it sounds much fatter ...
tomteriffic Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Good looker! I built a similar frankenstrat in the early 80's and did the Gilmour EMG rig, except that, as such, it didn't exist yet. I just put the parts together from EMG. Add a Kahler (I just ain't a Floyd guy, sorry), and I had a damn near one-size-fits-all gig guitar. Enjoy it! It did yeoman duty with me for many moons in its "none more black" configuration, but for its 25th birthday I gave it a new paint job.
