WTB: Mesa Mark-III or IV

Title says it all. I have funds waiting. I sold a great Mark-III to JeffR and I'm having sellers' remorse.

My first preference is for a short head, but please let me know if you have a long head or a combo for sale as I'll take what I can get. Cosmetics aren't that important, but please have it priced accordingly. No weird modifications, please. I am only interested in Red, Blue, or Green striped Mark-IIIs.

Please PM me or e-mail to gwayne64 at bellsouth dot net

What's your problem with the black stripe heads?

I don't have a problem with them, I am just unfamiliar with them. I've owned the others and know what I'm getting into with them. If you have some "black stripe" experience, I'm all ears.

I'm new to the Mark series family (I've always been a Marshall guy)... I hoped that you may have some insight on the "Black Stripe MK3" era, being postive or negative. The only "problem" that I have with the "black stripe" amps is the volume drop when switching from clean to crunch. Other than that it's a very tonefull amp that has a huge output and sounds quite good to my ears.

I think that's an inherent problem with the Mark-IIIs; hence the R2 mod that a lot of folks have done that allows a separate volume control over Channel 2.

yeah, the standard Mark III of any stripe is really a 2 "channel" amp rather than a 3. The R2 vol mod works wonders for that though.

If you don't want to go through the expense/hassle of the R2 mod, get you a cheap OD pedal or booster to bump the volume on R2. I picked up a vintage small-box Rat recently that makes R2 just howl. I have an AC Booster that works wonders too.
