currypowder Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 That SG is a GREAT guitar. I have the exact same model (mine's an '88). I also ended up swapping the pups for some HB sized GFS Mean 90's, not because I disliked the HBs, but I wanted some P90 on a mahogany slab tone. One of the best playing and sounding SGs I've ever encountered.

Here is a blurb from Musician's Friend ad (Elite/Elitists are no longer being produced)From Musicians Friend review:Elite Series features:Premium mahogany and maple, hand-selected for weight and tonal qualities, and kiln-dried to perfect moisture content 5-ply maple construction on archtops Bookmatched solid bodies and tops Solid tops and backs on acoustics Carved maple tops on Les Paul models Solid mahogany necks cut at 14° grain orientation for optimum strength American-made pickups with premium electronics German silver pickup covers finished in vintage nickel or 24K gold First quality nickel hardware including precision Grover tuners Real abalone and mother of pearl inlays Bone nuts and saddles Thin, evenly applied finishes, hand-rubbed to a lustrous smoothness Meticulously set bindings and inlays Uncompromising quality in every detail Individually and expertly adjusted and set-up for perfect action and intonation Premium hard case Limited Lifetime Warranty Nice poly finish, not sure of the exact pickups but definitely USA made and USA hardware. Neck to me is a comfortable oval shape, closer to a 59 than a slimmer/flatter radius 60's type.
