hepkat Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Hey board, I'm back, kinda. Still getting back on my feet since all of my job related setbacks, getting back into playing again. I am in need of a digital recorder, at least 8 tracks for an upcoming project. I have been freelancing in the audio/Video production world lately and have been "Commisioned" to do some background music for a video project for uncle sam. I can't use the production house facilites all the time, so I need a standalone recorder I can use at home. If anyone on the board has one at a good price let me know. I am familiar with the roland units and some of the tascam. Since this is the HFC I may trade a mint studio for something, as cash is still in short supply. Let me know on the board or in email
kurtsstuff Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Cool!..I have hope then because...If they can make a digital recorder...I'm pretty sure they can make me a midi capable kazoo!! we're talkin about the same thing ain't we?? lol
jwhitcomb3 Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 I have an Alesis ADAT LX20 with very low miles on it, but you'll still need a mixer.I bought the ADAT new to transfer studio tracks to my home studio DAT. I doubt it even has 40 hours on it. I've got the manual, remote and original carton. I'll throw in an 8 cable phono-to-RCA snake!Let me know if you are interested. I've also got some mics and effects units that might be useful.-Jonathan
hepkat Posted March 7, 2005 Author Posted March 7, 2005 how "Portable" is the adat? never fooled with one. I ask because I may need to do some remote recording as well. I'm in all new territory with recording like this. I have half-way mastered Pro-Tools and Cubase on the computer, but don't have enough computing horsepower to really use that technology at this time.I do have a Mackie 1604 that I was going to sell, but have held off to see if it would be useful for my new project.
jwhitcomb3 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 The ADAT isn't bad to move around if you have a rack case for it...it takes up three rack spaces. With an ADAT and a 1604 you've got plenty of bussing flexibility. The LX20 isn't as sturdy as the XT20, so if you are planning on constantly carting it around you might want to look for an XT instead. But if you just need to cart it around occasionally the LX will be fine.Downsides of an ADAT is you have to change tapes after 40 minutes of recording. Upsides is that the media is cheap and easy to come by, and just about anything can interface with an ADAT. You can take an ADAT tape into just about any studio and they'll be able to work with it.-Jonathan
