You must know Guy Forsyth over there.

In 2003 he came over touring in Europe, and he was playing in the neigborhood. I met him after the show, and we had a nice chat. The next couple of days he was free beween an accoustic gig in Holland (the band left already) and his flight home. So he came to my place, we had a couple of drinks - I opened a bottle of Middleton Special reserve (Irish wiskey)- and we agreed to bring him and his girlfriend (Wendy Colona- also a songwriter and singer) around over here.

The day ended with Guy singing songs on my terrace - and one of these was "Christmas in the Trenches". It's a song about British and Germans celebrating Christmas during the winter 1914-15. I didn't had a clue that an American could know a song about an episode, that happened at 15 miles from the place where I live.

So the day after we went touring in the Ypres area and we actually went to the place where it all happened. This made a big impression on him (there are about 250 war cemeteries -all ww1). He told me he would write on this trip, but I never heard anything of it.

He was recording for Antoine's records, but since they are out of business he only brought out a recording that isn't available for Europe ( I tried trough his site- nope)

Could any of you get me that cd ? I could pay you trough Paypal.

I've seen Guy Forsythe several times - always great fun with a few unexpected turns along the way.

I can't make any promises, but send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll see if I can find that CD.

He was quiet popular in Holland, when he still played more bluezy stuff, but his last CD's, on witch he played more songwriters things, didn't sold to well over here, altough I find them great (Needlegun and Can you live without). So he told me his next project would be a "home" project. This one is called "voices inside" and available trough his site- but they don't ship to Europe.

Beligan,

Great story. I saw Guy Forseth the first time about 12 years ago in Austin. I was walking (well something that resembled walking) into various bars on 6th over a week day.

There was this one place where the guy had this harmonica. He was singing either Kansas City Blues or something of that vein. All the clubs were packed. Ian Moore, Omar and the Howlers, and the regular Austin bands were "tuning up"before the weekend crowds.

Anyways, the tip jar was not doing well so, Guy walked around with the tip jar and sang a song about how the tip jar had the blues. He stopped at every table till someone put something in the tip jar. Now, I don't know if the song was rehearesed or not (I kinda think it was) but the custom lyrics to the crowd got'em going and it was off to the races.

Guy left Austin for a while and has recently resurfaced. He plays the regional circuit and is well respected.

Even though there music isn't the same vein, George DeVore is another singer songwriter from Austin. He reminds me of Guy and I have never figured it out. His band the Roam, has disbanded and David Albetia and Jimmy Mcfeely now play in the Country Rock band - Reckless Kelly.

Hi Belgian,

I picked up a copy of "Voices Inside" for you, but I don't see that particular song listed.

Here's the track list:

1) Intro

2) Midnight Train

3) Voices Inside

4) Heart Shaped Hole

5) Adam's Rib

6) It's Alright

7) Patient's Blues

8) The Whole

9) Whatever

10) One Wing

11) What I Should Be Singing

12) Dia, Dennise, Diana and You

13) When Is It Time

14) Jerry The Junker

Maybe it's a hidden track?

Anyway, I don't have a Paypal account, so why don't we just do a trade? You can send me a CD of something cool that's not available over here. Or if you don't want this CD, I don't mind keeping another Guy Forsyth disc.

Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and let me know what you'd like to do.

This is great !!!!

I'll send a cd of a project, I was involved in, but it's influenced with traditional Irish Folk. (Ireland is my second homeland), and one of the only decent roots band in Europe : El Fish.
