rycher Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hi, New here. Been lurking for awhile, seems like a good bunch here. A little about myself, I'm a hobiest, didn't start playing till I was 38 (4 years) so I'm not extremely good, probably never will be, but I love picking and it's a great pastime. I started right off doing most my own setup work as well as "hotrodding" cheaper (midline) guitars. That's probably why I'm not better at playing, I like to "tinker". I've got a really bad habit of trading guitars, but I'm trying to settle down and be more content. My current setup is a Rebel 20 head through an Avatar 2x12 loaded with a vintage 30 a g12h. My guitars are a MIM Strat with upgraded electronics and Seumour Duncans, a Jackson DXMG with SD's, a Jackson DK2M, Charvel model 2, Michael Kelly Arena Rose (acoustic), and a Giblon LP Traditional. I have a few effects pedals which I rarely use. I was interested in an "Explorer" type guitar, but couldn't justify another Gibby. So after looking at the Epi version and the imported Hamer Standard, the Hamer seemed like it would be the best of the two. I scored a Standard STDF. I'll give a report after I've had some time to evaluate, it's suppose to be here this afternoon. I plan on possibly upgrading it, depends on how I bond with it. I've enjoyed researching Hamer's and look forward to maybe one day in the future being able to get a USA model. Sorry for the long intro, but I hate to just ask a question right off the bat without a proper "hey". My question is will the Standard fit an Epiphone Explorer case (not the molded version). I don't gig out but I'd still like to have a case to store it in. Thanks for any info.
cmatthes Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Welcome aboard! The Standard SHOULD fit in the Epi case - as long as it is for their full-sized Explorer model. The cases for the "Korina" series they started doing back in the late '90s do work, and aren't as boxy as the Gibson Explorer cases. If there is any inside lining differences with the form-fitting case, that internal foam (under the case lining) can always be cut to shape.
rycher Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Thanks for the quick answer. I hadn't thought about cutting a regular Gibson Explorer case to fit. I just remember searching on here and it being stated that the lower bout on the Hamer is defferent than the Gibson. I've not ruled out just buying a Hamer hardshell case, but few online place have them. I did find them at sam ash but they fare currently out of stock. The guitar shop I bought it from said they could order me one but it would be $129 plus shipping, I'd like to keep it cheaper if possible. Just checked Fedex and it was delivered about an hour ago, unfortunately I've still got 4 1/2 hours of work left, really anxious to check her out.
cmatthes Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I think you're starting to feel a fever coming on... Maybe it's the Swine Flu... You should really go home early today.
rycher Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 I'd like to, but I think my boss would be suspicious if I used the I'm sick line twice in a month. Besides, he knows I'm a gear junkie and I've already made the mistake of mentioning I had a new baby on the way.
rycher Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 Thanks for the welcome btmn, I just got to unpack her a few minutes ago and then my daughter(16 month old) started getting pretty fussy soI put it down. I'll try to check her out tommorrow after work.
rycher Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 Ok, I got another question for the Hamer experts. I got my Hamer Standard out last night for the initial inspection. All in all pretty nice guitar, about what you'd expect at this price point. One thing that did strike me as odd, when I looked to see where it was made, it says Indonesia. I thought that the xt series where made in Korea and had recently swithched to China. It is a set neck, appears to be brand new. I'd post a pic but my digital camera is not working. Just wonderin' if this guitar is legit, everything appears just as the Hamers on the website or ebay or anywhere else I've looked. Thanks in advance.
