buzz, hum,....

Question

First off forgive me, I bought a gibson BFG....(i dig the look of them!!)

My problem is this, a very annoying ground hum, buzz etc. Really terrible a high volumes.

All wiring looks solid, pots not scrtachy, etc.

I've noticed it does go away when I touch the metal jack on the guitar cable, but not any metal parts on the guitar. (tried differnt cables, guitars, amps to rule out the obvious)

Before I go pulling things apart, does anyone think replacing the input jack would make a difference?

Thanx

Ooof. I'm no expert, but:

There should be a single solid core wire coming from the bridge to the control cavity. This is usually connected to the top of a pot along with everything else that is grounded.

From what you described, i suspect either that wire is not grounded properly, or has disconnected from the bridge. If so, this is something that definitely needs to be fixed.

Do you have an ohmeter? If so, ohm out between the ground of the jack and the bridge. That should be near 0 ohms. If it's open (infinite ohms), you have a grounding problem in the guitar.

Hope that helps...
