Speaker cable ends question

backinit

Question

Posted

I have an older amp that I can use either banana plugs or 1/4" outs (this is just a practise set up) Does either set up offer an advantage? I'm focusing on the cables to get. I'm leaning towards banana plugs because they seem to be alittle more widely used today thus more usuable with other set ups.

TIA

speakon are the latest

with either banana or 1/4 you are ok

i would get 1/4 and then through a set of banana to 1/4 adaptors in my gig bag for other situations

What Al said, plus bear in mind that different banana plugs (and plug designs) fit differently. Some are nice and snug and some are so loose the weight of the speaker cable might pull them right back out. You can spread the blades of the banana plug to make a tighter fit, but some are simply made to give a snugger fit. For example, notice the difference in the plug design with these:

And here's an example of the 1/4" to banana adapter that Al was talking about:
