EEK! It's not the saddle!

DAMN.

It's not the saddle; it's the D string saddle adjustment screw hole in the base plate that is stripped out. The result is the saddle is not pinned down and it just rides up on the end of the string retainer/screw. I got a clue when I slipped out the saddle (way too easy) and the retainer block was sticking out from underneath.

OK: "WAH".

How do I deal with this little problem? Tap for a bigger screw? Am I screwed?

I recall reading here some time ago about similar strip problems, various base plates being harder than others, blah blah.

Thanks

I've heard of people putting a Helicoil in and also, as they're metric, of using the corresponding sized imperial screw which is slightly larger - or if all else fails get a new base plate, although this will be 'Schaller' logo'd as Hamer ones just don't exist unless someone's got one in a draw somewhere.

I did once, as a quick fix, get a slightly longer screw with a nut and tighten it up FT with a quality allen key and then ground away as much of the nut underneath as i dare. Bit of a bodge but it must of held because buggered if i can remember which guitar i did it on !

As for base plates = schaller put hardened inserts in from around '92ish (or somewhere around then) which completely cured the problem.

I will try the helicoil first. There's a radio controlled airplane shop close by and they're pretty good with metric parts.

If unsuccessful I will try to find a base plate. IS A MODERN FLOYD PLATE A DROP-IN REPLACEMENT FOR A 1990 STOCK SCHALLER?

Well I guess I could cannibalize the Floyd of the StuTDavis FankenCali. It's basically a sentimental piece anyway.

Silver lining: I have to pull the tremolo apart anyway to mount a 37mm big block.

Thanks

Tommy

They are exactly the same, no dimensions have changed.
