salem Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Hi. I own a 1987 "red knob" Fender Twin. It sounds good and I haven't needed to change the tubes for about 10 years. However, there is a little background hiss that sounds like frying bacon. Is it pretty much normal for tube amps to have a little background noise or are the best amps dead quiet?

kurtsstuff Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Ten years?? how much use??...most likely need a tube job and yes....if cranking it up to get max distortion out of it...you will get hiss ,even with new tubes but if running the amp clean there should'nt be any very noticable hiss
