baj2k Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Here's pictures of the new Quiltop Birdseye Maple Hamer Newport I just bought from Wildwood Guitars. Going to look nice next to my "Triple Threat" Studio. Let me know what you think and any Newport owners out there I'd really like to know how they are working out for you. WWG Hamer Newport PicturesThanks, -Barry
Guest galejt Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Umm...paging KeyOfZ. Extreme G.A.S. to be had here.And may I add...Holy Shit!
baj2k Posted August 11, 2005 Author Posted August 11, 2005 Sorry for the triple post. Something went haywire and my PC did it... honest it wasn't me...
anotherfreak2 Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 WOW,that is a lot of maple, and oh soooooooooooooooooo pretty!
KeyOfZ Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Dang Baj2K, That is a serious plank of BirdsEye maple...now I see where all the AAAA BirdsEye maple went to Congrats man! We need some more photos taken when you receive that baby. I have an Artist Custom with a BirdsEye Maple top which today I found out is shipping next week.
Tonebutcher Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Wow! That's very nice! I just bought one very similar to that one from Willcutt. Yours has a more even figuring as mine is a little more "splotched." The down side is I'm having to sell a 335 and an Artist Custom to cover the pain. The Newport is working beautifully for me. It's a very rich "clean" guitar which is what I'm doing right now with a group of old time gospel singers, but I also used it dirty at a blues gig a few weeks back and it blew away the guy who's band I was sitting in with. Mine is exceptionally resonant unplugged. Really loud. No dead spots and very easy to play. I did change the bridge and tail piece to Tone Pros and lowered the action just a tad from factory setup.I compared mine to Matt Smith's at the recent NGW in New Orleans. I believe he has the Spruce top with a Bigsby whambulator, and his might have been just a touch brighter. I find I'm running the tone control down around 4 or 5, but the control is so smooth you don't notice any kind of muted sound until it gets all the way to 0. Hamer did an excellent job of electronics selection. The only thing I'm a little leery of is the potential for squeel from the unpotted Seths. I've had it happen at home at very high volume levels. but not at any gig yet.I think you'll be very pleased with your selection. Enjoy.
marcnorth Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 That's a fine looking peice of wood.Congrats!!!!
Nuclear Wessel Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 That Newport is awesome. Just decadent. Looks like the back is maple too.
hardheartedbill Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 smokin! I love the victory inlays on the Newport, congrats

I'm in a Rock & Blues band and I need a 335 style guitar. I have a Gibson R9 but I prefer my Hamer Triple Threat Studio with WCR pups in it so I decided to go Hamer instead of Gibson. I got the guitar today and I have no regrets. It sounds better than it looks... which is always an added bonus... Thanks again, -Barry
