holLoWskull Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 A CL deal gone bad that I am now sour to. Supposedly a 96' Diablo custom ordered w/ pau ferro board, DiMarzio's, etc....NOT. Paid what the seller was asking and even added for shipping, but after a few conversations w/ seller I realize it's just better to take the loss, move this guitar cheap and let somebody here benefit from the (literally!) 6 hours of work I put into this thing cleaning it, polishing it, setting it up (correctly!), intonating it, and making it play good. So up for sale: 1992 Diablo (red trans finish, ROSEWOOD fretboard, SEYMOUR DUNCAN pickups (the bridge JB seems f#cked as it is weak/thin sounding and not reading a proper resistance on my multimeter). Might be just a broken wire, might be the pickup...dunno...don't want to put any more time inot this thing to find out! After all the work I put in it I would now rate it as a conservative 7.5/10 condition (it shines now!). The action is ultra low without buzz. Frets have been polished, fretboard cleaned and then conditioned. The neck is a tad too skinny for me (think slim side of medium...not quite early 90's Special thin...more like Centaura/T-62/Vintage S thin). The frets have some minor wear in certain spots (mainly the D chord area)...you can see it if you look close, but nothing that effects playing/bending at all (and this action is super low so it would show!). Original owner must have acid for sweat, as I did my best to get the tarnish/corrosion off of the metal parts that came in contact, but there is still some tarnish on the pickup pole pieces and some minor corrosion on some of the Floyd saddles. Put it on my digital scale and it weighs a feather light 6lbs. 13 oz.! Has Schaller strap locks (strap ends included) and Allen wrenches for Floyd. A few nicks, one decent sized chip on the front (shown in picture...not the flash reflection by the output jack plate) some worming in the clear on the back, but all in all you have to really go over it closely to notice. No back plate or truss rod cover, everything else is there. Will be shipped in a padded Fender gig bag (OK condition, not beat, not great). Shipped/insured to a CONUS address for the magic bottom feeder sum of $350!!!!. US PO Money order/cash/personal check (if you're a member here and have been posting/are at least somewhat known). Not really looking for Paypal because my account is set to only allow me to withdraw $500/month (and I'm there for this month). Not looking to trade or lowball offers as I'm already taking a good loss on this one. I just want it gone quick so I don't have to look at it and stay pissed off on the screwin' I took (another reason to not go crazy on Craigslist deals unless you can meet in person/check the item out)
DarrenD Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I remember this one on craigs. It would have been a great deal if it was what the seller proposed (pau ferro fingerboard etc.). Sorry to hear. I actually thought about picking it up too.
holLoWskull Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 I remember this one on craigs. It would have been a great deal if it was what the seller proposed (pau ferro fingerboard etc.). Sorry to hear. I actually thought about picking it up too. I agree, had it been what the seller advertised then yes it would have been a great deal (at $450 + $30 I gave him for Paypal/shipping). The ironic thing is the seller is supposedly a cop and former Hamer endorsee...you'd think you'd get a totally honest dude who knows his sh!t about Hamers when you combine those two things!?. My bull$hit alert should have gone off when he said it cost him $1,900 new (I doubt there ever was a Diablo made that cost anybody that much), but I figured maybe that was the list price with the custom feature upcharges in 1996 (which would have been the fretboard, the reverse headstock, the particular DiMarzio pickups it was advertised with, stadium logo, etc....if it were actually a 96' model). Oh well, my loss will maybe be somebody else's gain here on the board. I figure I'll give it a few days here at the HFC bottom feeder approved price first before ebay'ing it. The guitar is pretty clean now and does play real well...just needs the bridge pickup issue resolved to be ready to gig with. Tough to beat a clean USA Hamer for $350 shipped to your doorstep. It even has a brand new set of DR Pure Blues .009's on it

holLoWskull Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Nathan, Got your PM's and e-mail. I sent you one of each back. I was starting to wonder if the HFC had gone mad seeing as how I posted a $350 shipped bottom feeder approved price on a good/very good (7.5/10) condition USA Hamer and hadn't gotten any nibbles within minutes of posting!
holLoWskull Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 $350 USA Diablo SOLD (pending payment)!
