hamerhead Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I have a Motion Sound AR-112 with a 12" 8 ohm speaker (I bypassed the amp) that I want to use with a 1964 Fender Vibrolux amp (2 x 10 / 4 ohms). Can I safely plug the 8 ohm speaker into the 2nd speaker output (while using the 10s also), or do I risk damaging something?

Can I safely plug the 8 ohm speaker into the 2nd speaker output (while using the 10s also), or do I risk damaging something? If you connect the 8 ohm cab in parallel with the 2x10 4 ohm you will take the impedance presented to the amp to under 4 ohms this will probably damage ampYou could wire the 2x10 in series (assuming it has 2 8 ohm speakers inside )making 16 ohm then link the 8 ohm in as well which would give around 6 ohms presented to the amp outputThis would be fineIs it valve or tranny btw?
gtone Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Another possible option is not bypass the amp portion of the AR-112 and do a simple (and easily reversible) mod to the external speaker output on the Vibrolux to convert it to a "line out". I'm not 100% certain it's possible with BF Fenders, it's fairly well documented for the Tweeds. The benefit here is that you wouldn't have to change the existing wiring on the 2X10's just to accommodate the times you want to use the AR-112.
