I did a silly thing and purchased a used guitar without knowing much about it. It is a Hamer Sunburst model. If I am reading the serial number correctly it is from 1992 which means I probably paid too much for it but it is in really great condition. The fretboard is clean and the top does not have a mark on it. The back has some buckle scratches but overall this was a well cared for guitar. I assumed it was a studio custom model as it has inlays and a bound top. I did not know that sunburst was an actual model. Can anyone give me more details about the guitar. What pickups are in it. I assumed it was a 59/jb combo but that might not be the case. When years did Hamer make the Sunburst model? Any help from a Hamer expert would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

If it's got a flat top, it'll be an '82. If the top is carved, a '92. The Sunburst and Special were Hamer's first two production models. They came into existence very early in in the Hamer history ('77?) and continued on until about 1993, when the Sunburst underwent a name change to the Studio (and the crowned 'n' bound Studio Custom). The flat top gave way to the carved top around 1990 or so. Serial Steve can fill you in with more precision on that.

Either way, a fine guitar and one to be proud of. Enjoy and welcome to the sandbox!
