Guest JackButler Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I don't know anything about this stuff and I'm probably a little too trusting in my fellow man..LOL.. so I need some advice here.. I got this in my mail this morning..this is all pasted directly from the mail and there were two of them...identical in my office this morning..having not had any sleep and no coffee..my 8 year old had a pain in her side and was crying..I freaked and scooped her off to the ER..seemed to be a pulled muscle that had begin to spasm...I wasn't much older than her when they had to yank my appendix..when it comes to the kids..I just don't take any chances..lol...anyways..I figured that you guys were pretty hip to all the scams and cons out there...sooooo...whaddya think???As a note..I haven't ever used this account ever...once for a huge ebay transaction years ago..other than that its been inactive for at least a couple of years.. jerseydrew Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 It's a scam. They're all a scam. Never, NEVER click on the link they provide. For starters, if it was from Paypal, it would be addressed to YOUR name (ie: Phil McCracken), not Dear Paypal user or whatever.
KorinaHound Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Consider it a scam. What most of these thieving faggots do is send you a link that reads correctly but actually links to a different site. don't click any of the links.open your web browser and type in www.paypal.com and log in. IF there is a problem with your account there will be a message available to you there.Ebay now has their own message system as well once you log in, so ditto the response for such letters from Ebay.I have been told never click any link an any email suggesting a problem with billing or passwords. Better to type company link into the browser and check account status that way.KorinaHound
Submariner85 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I had a couple of those in the past.NEVER EVER EVER believe any email that asks you for any information regarding your account or tells you that your account has been suspended blah blah.Read this: This is what I have in my "ME" page on Ebay.Greg and Janet MI thought I would use this for something useful and hopefully helpful.Within the past 2 months, I have received what they call "Spoof" or "Phish" Emails from unknown sources. This type of email is used to trick you into granting access to your personal account. The ones I have gotten said that my Ebay account was suspended but I could regain access by clicking below. They look pretty real but don't fall for it. I wasn't a victim, thankfully, due to a questioning attitude. Here are my tips for spotting Fake emails supposedly from Ebay:1. They went to my "Bulk" or "Junk" email folder instead of my inbox. Ebay mail goes to you inbox unless it is ongoing correspondance from a buyer/seller.2. One was from [email protected]. Ebay uses aw-confirm, not aw-confirmation. Look for unfamiliar ebay email addresses.3. Ebay will never ask for account information via email. Don't give it.4. One was from [email protected]. Ummm safeharbor misspelled. Ok that one was obvious. Look for typos.5. Always be suspicious about emails that seem to be urgent with regard to your account.Ebay has a link to report suspicious emails. I highly recommed you use it if something looks fishy. They are manned 24-7 and you get an immediate response. They will tell you if the email came from ebay or not.Hope no one gets duped. Thankfully, I haven't been.Go Here to Report that emailhttp://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/?ssPageName=f:f:US

kurtsstuff Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I almost got sucked into that too....paypal will never nor ask for any passwords or any info like that in any e-mails to you.... forward the e-mail and report it to [email protected] I think thats the address? or net or org??..
hrtatak Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I didn't follow the link that you provided but.....If you ever get one these emails and it asks for your password; enter the WRONG password and see if it lets you continue on. If it does; guess what ?? It (was)is a scam !!!!
