gtone Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 All nickel-covered and in very good cosmetic shape, fully functioning. Pickup prices include S/H and PayPal, your choice of deniros (US or CDN).JB bridge - $55Pics can be taken/'bucketed, (but only if I have to...).
zenmindbeginner Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Oh man... this has been a KILLER Seymour Duncan nickel covered fire sale! The JB Bridge is unrivaled as a whoop ass crunch and lead machine. Nothing sings like a JB. Articulate highs, insane harmonics, tight bass, lightly scooped lower mids, glassy upper mids, enough output to drive difficult passages and a nice grainy almost grind-like response to high gain. Hi-Fi yet vintage. Sure, it's not the most flattering pickup for cleans but it sounds great combined with a good neck pickup in the middle position. And would sound incredible paired with... The Phat Cat is an absolutely AMAZING sounding pickup. It's like the sound of a vintage Fender Wide Range humbucker yet has the open treble voicing of a Seth Lover. It's really scooped in the mids but has a real big and rich bottom end. This is a sick combo at a really nice price especially considering that gtone's shipping expenses from Canada are significantly higher than what we pay in the U.S. Get em' while their hot!
gtone Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 Thanks for the bump Zen - you da' man when it comes to pickups. Hey - I see one of your top-drawer DiMarzio PAF's is finding awesome new digs in Jay's sweet-ass 4-digit standard. That should be a match made in Hamer heaven!
zenmindbeginner Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Thank you very much dude! Yeah... that didn't go so well. Murkat likes a more full bodied sound and is very particular about what he wants in his pickups. He yanked that DiMarzio out of the guitar as fast as it went in. Shrill was the word he used to describe it, I like the term "raspy" myself. lolz. Murkat swaps magnets and stuff, he has a very fine ear, I won't second guess him. The pickup is going in an OEM bag that Murkat keeps with all of his guitars.I personally don't care for a lot of low end in my pickups and gravitate away from warm sounding pickups. I dig the raspy and woody sound of the vintage DiMarzios. I have guitars with vintage PAFs, JBs and Area 67s... I don't like a lot of bass and appreciate lean pickups with a lot of upper mid cut.I would soooo buy this set of yours if I had another guitar that required covered pickups. I almost went the JB/Phat Cat combo, but kind of impulsively decided on the JB/Seth Lover instead (to go in Lockbody's old silver sparkle chambered Studio instead of the stock set of '59s). I might have made the wrong decision and should have went with the Phat Cat, I'll know when the Seth comes in the mail...Brooks sure makes his Phat Cat neck pup sound amazing, but I'm clearly no Brooks.
gtone Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 Co-inky dink or what - this PhatCat is from Brooks' old Special FM. And yes, they do sound awesome - I'm just a 'bucker guy myself! FWIW, of the four pu's I had for sale, I woulda guessed the PhatCat would sell first.Loved Brooks' and your video, btw - nearly pissed my pants watching that! Great playing and good sync up to the video - "works" very well.

Thank you very much dude, Brooks mentioned that he enjoyed laying his track down better than listening to my finished mix. I think that it is fucking brilliant playing IMHO though.
analogsystem Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 How old is the JB? I'm interested in one from the mid 90s or earlier thanks!

I love the new pups but kinda miss the Seth's, so they'll definitely be going in another guitar at some point. They have loads of open sounding sustain, a bit of honk and plenty of bite, but in a very pleasing musical way. Good pups for sure.
bisonkills Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 And the PhatCat is Ghandi - thanks bisonkills!Pups arrived all in one piece. Thank you, please doing business with you man!
gtone Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Pleasure's mine bisonkills - thanks for a smooth deal and rock on, my friend! Stevo
